Quality / Engineering Manager – 1st Shift
Job Summary
Verhoff Machine & Welding is looking for a Quality/ Engineering Manager to lead our engineering function in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment supporting military and defense contracts. This hands-on leadership role oversees all engineering activity—mechanical design, process development, quality compliance, and continuous improvement—to ensure cost-effective, high-quality, and on-time production.
The ideal candidate is a technical expert who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands job shop dynamics, and can lead teams while interacting directly with production, quality, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, drafters, process engineers, quality inspectors, weld inspectors, quality administration, and shipping department.
- Allocate engineering and quality resources effectively to support quoting, production, and quality initiatives.
- Serve as the primary engineering/quality contact for cross-functional teams and external customers.
- Conduct performance reviews and support technical development of the engineering and quality staff.
Technical & Quality Oversight - Review and approve all drawings, customer requirements, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Review quality contractual requirements on all incoming purchase orders.
- Complete all requirements to maintain ISO 9001 registration, become the main internal ISO auditor, as well as; completing the large majority of internal audits. Responsible for the ISO management review, updates, quality planning, and all aspects of ISO.
- Become customer inspection delegate responsible for assuring all requirements of the purchase order and technical data package is satisfied. Responsible to verify purchase order, physical verification, configuration control, outside processing, special processes, and material verification with full total drawing package requirements on every part number for every shipment.
- Ensure engineering/ quality practices comply with ISO 9001, MIL-STD, and customer-specific requirements.
- Responsible for special process testing and compliance.
- Provide resolution of non-conformances, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Prepare, review and complete PPAP’s to ensure contract deliverables are technically accurate and complete.
Process & Production Support - Lead efforts to improve manufacturability, reduce rework, and increase throughput across machining, welding, cutting, and assembly departments.
- Collaborate with production supervisors to drive process improvement and solve technical challenges.
- Support tooling/fixture development and automation efforts to reduce labor and variation.
Strategic Contribution - Work with leadership on quoting strategies, capital planning, and capacity expansion.
- Develop KPIs to track efficiency, cost impact, and quality metrics.
- Serve as a technical voice during customer audits, contract reviews, and program launches.

Metal Manufacturing: 5 years (Preferred)
